You Won't Believe How Many Physiotherapy Visits are Really Needed!

Today, we’re diving into an awe-inspiring study that reveals the secret to maximizing your knee strength after ACL reconstruction.

In our quest for groundbreaking insights, we turn our attention to a fascinating study titled “The Muscle Strength of the Knee Joint after ACL Reconstruction Depends on the Number and Frequency of Supervised Physiotherapy Visits”. 

This research explores the power and importance of physiotherapy in supercharging your knee muscles after ACL reconstruction.

 

Now, you might be wondering, “What’s so extraordinary about physiotherapy?”

Brace yourself, because this study unravels the truth: six months of physiotherapy with a higher number of visits (PHNV) will work wonders in enhancing your strength, surpassing the results achieved with a lower number of visits (PLNV).

It’s time to unlock your knee’s full potential, not half arse it!

 

The study divided participants into three groups: Group I (higher number of visits), Group II (lower number of visits), and Group III (control). 

 

Group I with the higher number of visits attended Physiotherapy 3 or more times per week for the 6 month period whereas Group II attended only 1 session per week. 

 

Measurements were taken at various intervals after ACL reconstruction, and the results will leave you in awe!

 

In both ACL reconstruction groups, the relative strength improved over the 24-week period compared to the uninvolved side. 

 

BUT, here’s the jaw-dropping revelation: 

Group II, with a lower number of visits, experienced much lower strength values for their quadriceps and hamstring muscles in the ACL reconstructed limbs.

 

Group I (3 sessions per week) had 18% more strength in their quadriceps muscles and 8% more strength in their hamstring muscles than Group II (1 session per week)

 

Group I, with their higher number of visits, experienced a strong correlation between the number of visits and higher strength values for both the operated and unoperated knees.



It’s clear that consistency and frequency in physiotherapy sessions hold the key to maximizing your muscle strength.

Be AWARE they’ll immediately try to commit you to multiple follow up sessions after your initial consultation. This happened to me and then I later found out that as it just so happens, they have a cancellation policy that says you have to pay 100% of the consultation fee for cancelling. They failed to tell me this when they were pushy in committing me to 6 sessions after my consult, so that was a really nice little surprise.

I was already uncomfortable with how pushy they were in having me commit to so many sessions, so when I heard about the policy I just cancelled all together. So, I can’t speak further to the quality of their service throughout therapy phase. FYI this was also a few months ago now, it’s possible (though unlikely) they may have changed the policy. Just ask the question.

This is the second time I have been treated by the team at FFP.
As a health professional myself I have been impressed with the level of care I have received from all members of the team.
